Ranking all OPM chapters in 2019

Welcome back guys. Today I’ll be briefly ranking all OPM manga chapters released this year (101-124) based solely on my enjoyment level. I had to do a quick reread of each chapter to make sure the list is decent & unbiased (unfortunately it still is!), I also gave each chapter a rating to show you the slim margins between them. OPM chapter 124 review

KingKira’s View: One & Murata decided to round off the decade with a relatively short and action-packed chapter. We resumed from the last chapter with Bang, Bomb & Fubuki facing Overgrown Rover in what appears to be a massive cavern deep inside the monster hideout. As expected, Rover immediately starts firing several blasts at the trio, who resort to hiding, unfortunately, Rover finds them quickly and shoots a heat blast at point-blank range destroying a large portion of the environment in the process.

Bang and Bomb came out unscathed thanks to Fubuki’s help but she took severe damage with several veins popping out of her head and blood pouring out of her eye and nose. Of course, Rover didn’t give them time to relax as he showed up ready to fire more blasts, at this point, Fubuki’s life flashes before her eyes and she thinks of her beloved Fubuki group, I find it funny how she has deluded herself to the extent that she truly sees Saitama, Genos Bang, and Bomb as a part of her group. Fubuki was even willing to offer her life to save Bang & Bomb (She didn’t need to go that far) she also reinforced the bodies of Bang and Bomb with psychic powers. Fubuki’s powers seemed to loosen the old men up as Bang deflected 3 blasts from Rover and proceeded to perform the cross fang dragon slayer fist on Rover with Bomb. We don’t know how effective this attack will be on Rover but it sure looks powerful, I’m excited to see how the remainder of the fight will play out.

KingKira’s character of the week: I was torn between Rover and Fubuki but I’ll go with Rover. Despite taking a punch from Saitama, Rover is still able to give “The new Fubuki group” a hard time alone, that’s very impressive. Shoutout to Fubuki, she had some nice character development and proved to be very useful during the battle.

KingKira’s best scene: Pretty much Rover blowing up everything around him, the location of the battle added some spice to each scene with some awesome detailed panels.

KingKira’s best panel: The final double spread showing Bang & Bomb delivering the cross fang dragon slayer fist on Rover, I also love the way Murata illustrated Rover’s heat blasts and its destructive ability throughout the chapter.

Judgment: It was great to see one of my favorite heroes in Bang put in work alongside Bomb and Fubuki. The chapter was shorter than usual but we got some incredible backgrounds and the signature over-the-top action that we love from the series. 8/10

OPM chapter 123 review

KingKira’s View: One & Murata just can’t stop giving us quality chapters. This chapter was absolutely loaded. We picked off from the Pig god & Gums confrontation and Pig god got some hype from the narrator only for us to see him get chewed on by Gums, up next was Black sperm disrespectfully holding Atomic samurai by his hair after severely beating him up, Zombieman looked even worse with his arms and mid-section completely blown off by Homeless emperor, Child emperor and Amai mask are also looking pretty helpless In their respective battles, it was good to see Puri recovering considering he just got demolished by Garou, his durability is indeed impressive.

I felt as though the narrator tried to clarify the power gap between the S class heroes in the strike team and Tatsumaki. After Tatsumaki casually destroyed Gyoro’s meat puppet, she found gyoro’s real form (What a form!) with no difficulty and proceeded to restrain her in what I consider to be a scene rich in fanservice. In a last-ditch effort to escape Tatsumaki’s psychic bind, Gyoro tries to get help from Rover who is revealed to be occupied with Fubuki, Bang & Bomb. I was honestly surprised and impressed to see Fubuki defend against a Rover blast, I’m excited to see how the fight will play out.

KingKira’s character of the week: Tough choice for me to pick just one character so forgive me this time for picking the Cadres, they overwhelmed the S class heroes with relative ease in this chapter. However, if I’m forced at gunpoint to pick one character I’ll pick Gyoro gyoro, it was great to see her real body.

KingKira’s best scene: Some amazing scenes to choose from in this chapter but I’ll have to go with the first few panels showing the S class heroes losing to their Cadre opponents. Murata also did an incredible job with the Gyoro gyoro reveal.

KingKira’s best panel: The full spread showing Rover encountering Bang, Bomb and Fubuki. It’s an epic panel displaying 4 characters I like.

Judgment: Fantastic chapter. The story made some progression, we finally got the Gyoro gyoro reveal and another exciting battle to look forward to. This is definitely in my top 3 favorite OPM chapters in 2019 (Expect a list this year). 10/10

OPM chapter 122 review

KingKira’s View: A pretty interesting chapter this week, we got a lot of exposition on the Hero Association and also saw some characters we haven’t seen in a bit. The chapter continued Child emperor’s fight with Evil natural water and to my surprise Sludge jellyfish appeared, meaning that he survived child emperor’s attack back in chapter 97, unfortunately for him Lord Evil Natural water literally sucked the life out of him and proceeded to turn the tables on CE, piercing the S class heroes’ thighs and destroying his snowman robot, showing that he isn’t a cadre for nothing.

We then cut back to Genos as he reviews the info Drive knight gave Sekingar. I have to give DK props for getting pretty accurate data on the cadres (at least from what we’ve seen so far). Saitama and Flashy flash are still running around in circles somewhere in the MA base, this acts as a Segway to the “S-class is insane” speech. Here are my few key takeaways from the narrator:

* S-class is insane (obviously).

* Accomplishments in slaying monsters, combat ability, contribution to society and popularity are the criteria used in ranking the heroes.

* The S-class heroes were nonchalant about their hero duties before they got recognition.

* Every S-class hero can solo demons (Not all demons).

The last page shows Gums gaining the upper hand in his battle with Pig god. At this point it is unknown how the fight will end, hopefully, we get more of that in the next chapter.

KingKira’s character of the week: Pretty tough decision but I have to go with the mysterious cadre, Evil natural water. He utilized Sludge jellyfish to gain the upper hand in his battle with CE and had some rather interesting presentations in the chapter. Shout out to Metal bat and Watchdog man, we haven’t seen them in a while.

KingKira’s best scene: I enjoyed seeing ENW turn the tables on CE, piercing his thigh and destroying the snowman robot in the process. Shout out to Gums who seems to be putting in work on Pig god.

KingKira’s best panel: The panel with ENW overwhelming CE is my pick. Again shout out to Metal bat & Watchdog man, they looked pretty badass.

Judgment: I had a lot of fun with this chapter, probably as much as the last chapter if I’m being honest. The S-class history lesson gave us some much-needed exposition on the Hero Association and ENW was cool in this chapter. We got to see some cyborg boys stuff as well as Saitama and Flashy humor. It seemed like a setup for the next chapter, so expect big things next time on One-punch man. 8.5/10.
